Sometimes a small step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.
√mathroots will take place for two weeks in early July of 2025. It is open to all students who satisfy the following criteria:
- Apply by March 1st
- US citizens or attending high school in the US (before the last year of high school)
- Between the ages of 14-18
- Demonstrated academic excellence, particularly in mathematics
- Students should be comfortable with high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry, exponents, and logarithms. Precalculus is strongly recommended. Calculus is not required.
We very strongly encourage applications from students who are under-represented or under-served in mathematics, including, but not limited to,
- students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds
- students who live in a rural or urban area
- students who might be the first in their family to attend college
- women and underrepresented minorities
All applicants satisfying the eligibility criteria above will be considered equitably, without regard to race or ethnicity.
All educational, food, and boarding costs are generously covered by our funders. However, students are required to pay for their transportation to and from MIT. Travel scholarships are available on a limited basis for students with need.
